Tips for Entrepreneurs

Today about 40 percent of experienced workers are staying jobless for over six months.  Finding a job is no easy task.  If you do find a job, it is likely to pay between $8-$12 an hour.  Not bad if you were clerical, but if you have had years of experience or been in a management job… that low wage can be painful. Many persons take lower paying jobs to ensure that they can meet their family's immediate economic needs.  However, there are other options and one of them is owning your own business.

For many, this is may not be an option because they want the stability of a regular job, steady income, health and pension benefits.  If these things do not mean as much to you, or you can make enough money as a self-employed person and still afford some benefits, then self-employment is for you.   A good option while starting out would be to have the best of both worlds—keep the $12 job and work on growing you own business after hours.
You can start by developing a web presence, whether you are a tax preparer, lawn care consultant or Real Estate agent.  Regardless of the nature of you business, you can develop a website, advertise you business and offer products and services that could attract clients.  If you are on a budget, try the Google Sites and Google Apps service and get you business started for a fraction of the cost.
A 2009 Pew Research Survey shows that -  The percentage of self-employed workers increases dramatically among older age groups, growing nearly four-fold to 15% among those ages 50 to 64 and rising further to 25% among workers 65 or older.  (Current Population Survey).  If you plan to be part of this statistic, see the list of internet business opportunities by going to the Who is Hiring page.

WORKING FROM HOME (Home based business):

Working from home is much different to the above.  Though in some cases, companies may want to hire you as an independent contractor .  Be smart, if you take an assignment to work from home, try to incorporate it into your own established online business.  For most Home based businesses (WFH), you are allowed to set your hours.  Therefore it makes sense to do this in conjunction with your other business ventures.  You can allocate 20 hours to the WHF and 20 hours to your Online business, etc.  Here are a few things you will need to get started:
